Latin name: Betula alleghaniensis
The yellow birch tree incredible fall display of bright yellow and gold leaves. A valuable tree and classified as one of the largest birches in northeastern North America. Bark is a shiny yellow to gray-silver that splits into curly strips and becomes a reddish brown as it grow older. The stems of the Yellow Birch contain a wintergreen aroma.

The yellow birch grows across southern and central Ontario and into northern parts of the province. It is a medium-sized tree and is the largest of the birches that are native to Ontario.
